Donny + Steph | A Romantic Stone Harbor Wedding | The Reeds at Shelter Haven
Oh my word. Donny + Steph’s big day was such a dream! A wedding on the beautiful bay in Stone Harbor, NJ, with perfect fall weather. I love any excuse to go back home, but it was especially fun to photograph an old friend who I’ve known since elementary school! Not to mention, my bestie from kindergarten came along to second shoot with me!
When we walked into the bridal suite, we knew right away that there would not be a dull moment in the day! This crew of bridesmaids was ready to love on their girl and celebrate big! The bridal party was full of best friends, siblings, and cousins that were ready to make this the best day ever for Donny + Steph.
After capturing some sweet moments while the crew was getting ready, we found a spot on the dock for their first look. Being out on the water is a big part of Donny + Steph’s life, and also how their relationship first started, so they knew they wanted it to be a big part of their wedding day. We took advantage of the perfect weather, the blue skies, and the calm water by doing as many pictures as possible on the dock and on Donny’s boat!
Their ceremony site overlooked the bay, so all the guests got a fun surprise when Donny and his groomsmen arrived by boat to the ceremony! We managed to steal Donny + Steph away from all the excitement of cocktail hour to sneak a few sunset pics back by the water. This had to be my favorite part of the day - her cathedral length veil and their newly married glow perfectly complimented the gorgeous skies and soft breeze.
During the reception, Jason (their DJ), pulled us aside to let us know of something special that would happen during the first dances. Steph’s dad passed away when we were in high school, so after her first dance with Donny, she danced with her brother, her best friend’s dad, and a close family member who has been a mentor to her in her career and life. What Steph didn’t know was that they’d be playing a video in the background of her dancing with her dad when she was just 7 years old, at their cousin’s wedding. It was the most beautiful way to honor and remember her dad, and there was not a dry eye in the room. After the first dances, Donny had a beautiful moment with his mom, where they sat and sang “Bobby McGee“ by Janis Joplin together. She belted every word and was met with huge applause from the whole room.
